A Case Study

The two founders of a digital advertising agency wanted to grow the company profitably while preparing for sale in 3-4-years. Their vision was to transform the company into an “institutional quality” investment, so that an attractive buyer would be willing to pay a premium EBITDA multiple for the business.
Joining the team as CEO advisor, our Newport partner worked closely with the owners over a 3-year period to professionalize all aspects of the company, including a more robust budgeting and financial analysis capability, several upgrades to the leadership team, a better-defined go-to-market strategy and a wide assortment of operational improvements. He also focused on creating the type of risk profile for the company that would attract a wide variety of targeted buyers.
Newport then helped “quarterback” a successful sale process to a major strategic buyer on very favorable terms for the founders. Because the founders continued to operate the business for the buyer after the sale was completed, our Newport partner continued working for the founders for a two-year period to support the integration with the new parent company and ensure full realization of the deal earnout.
Over the 5-year period Newport was involved, the client tripled its annual revenues, quadrupled its EBITDA, penetrated multiple new market segments, and was acquired by a much larger strategic buyer at a very attractive EBITDA multiple.
